Over the last 13 years we have worked into Kenya working alongside the General Superintendent of Elim Gospel Kenya to encourage, support and advise him in his role. We did this by regular visits and financial giving as we were able.
During our visits, we conducted Pastors' and Leaders' seminars in various locations, and latterly we concentrated on supporting, teaching and training the leadership of a local church in Nyeri. Our aim in doing this was to equip a local church of which the General Overseer is the Senior Pastor so that they could effectively pass on the teaching and training in their way according to their own culture.
Secondly, we supported one local Elim Gospel Pastor and his family financially. We paid for the eldest daughter to go to secondary school and through college - she finished with a catering certificate. We have also sought ways to help the Pastor and his wife make a living so they can support themselves. So over the years we bought them chickens, rabbits, cows and goats all to breed and sell, and crops to grow and sell. They are now self-sustaining.
We financed the building and equipping of a shop, called ‘Your Place Kenya’ from which items are sold to help support the Senior Pastor and his family. Through their entrepreneurship, they have sub-let parts of the building to a dressmaker and a motorbike parts dealer.
The General Overseer, Rev. Samuel Kingori, had a dream and believed God for a place which could be used as a National Office for the wider work of Elim Gospel. God answered his prayers and he obtained the property he wanted. We were able to help furnish the office with office desks and chairs, a desktop computer and a printer.
All this has been made possible through the giving of the great people of Grimsby Neighbourhood Church. Thank you!
Our time of 'hands-on' support in Kenya has now come to an end, although we continue to support through our prayers and communication. We are now looking to God to lead us into a new missions opportunity.
